Women’s Drop-In Guest

Recently, we invited Toronto writer Mary Fairhurst Breen to come out to one of our Women’s Drop-in session. After coming across Mary’s profile on Moms Stop the Harm, we reached out to her to inquire about facilitating a workshop at the drop-in.

Mary is an artist, educator, and author of a memoir about the impact of mental illness and substance use on generations of her family. She has been involved in personal and family storytelling in many different ways. She also interviewed queer activists for a 2023 history book geared towards kids and teens. Now she is working on a collection of stories about the lives of young adults lost to the opioid health crisis.

By way of storytelling, Mary invited the drop-in participants to share their grief and craft their story through felt art. The group were able to select colors and create a scene personal to them that brings them peace. They were invited to share their pieces afterwards and talk about the meaning attached.
